A poem
I’ve made my fair share of drastic moves in life. However, I didn’t know I’d avoid a simple trip to Banff National Park for years. I always pushed the trip to some distant future. I made up excuses that it wasn’t the right time, I needed to go with friends, I couldn’t visit without a car, or it wouldn’t be safe in the bear land.
Then, a few minutes of online research this year proved all my excuses as baseless. I decided to do the trip myself, my best trip yet in Canada, and I pondered this question – why didn’t I do it sooner? It was the Bear in my head.
Sometimes, we linger on things too long and make assumptions not to pursue them. But the fear and doubt are usually in our heads – nine out of ten times.
So, whether you’re mulling over a conversation you need to have or still internally brewing that idea, don’t let the Bear in your head keep you away from your Rocky Mountain.
Here is a short poem I wrote on –
The Bear In Our Head
Mama Bear, Mama Bear!
You’ve been hanging around a lot,
Strolling in my head, dawn to dusk.
I fear like a child in a haunted hut.
You won’t let me go to the woods,
Be on my own and face the crooks.
You say you’re protecting me,
But your “love” is coward-ing me.
Now I have to let you go,
Take a chance on the rocky road.
We’ll see what happens next,
As I travel far into the West.
There’ll be creatures to scare me,
Deadly dragons who’ll dare me.
But I’ll learn to learn, and
Avoid the paths of no return.
Mama Bear, Mama Bear!
I am stronger than you think.
I can survive the beast-est of beasts,
So let go of my head.
For the child within us.
