It was the year of fresh departure for the sparrows to chirp,
and perch on the branches that sprouted early.
So early, that the bikers sprung in the rare warm February.
Yes, it was those fake-wintery days
when I first saw her mesmerizing green eyes
that pierced straight through my soul.
And just like that,
I locked eyes with my first cat love.
Cattie’d roll on the floor
on my visits while her parents were away.
Those honeymoon days, when it was just me and her.
I’d caress her zebra-ish under-belly fur,
the arch on her head and between her ears,
those emerald eyes blinked as she purred,
with a rare love only to be found in Shakespeare.
And just like that,
I knew I’d found my love forever.
But wait, “You! Who?”, I said
to the woman I came across one day.
“I spend the nights”, is all she said.
But the dagger plunged deeper
when Cattie bundled around her leg.
“You didn’t”, I feared the worst -
“slept with your paws on her?”, I could manage to say.
But the crumpled sheets narrated the night before.
And just like that,
I knew Cattie had slept with ‘the other’ whore.
Bang! A six-foot-two stood at the door.
He read the obvious question in our eyes -
“I do weekends”, he said and flicked his hair.
Cattie, with her tail between her legs,
humped, with a paw hanging mid-air.
“The love of two wasn’t enough for you?",
said the two pairs of tearful eyes.
But she, the triple-timing bitch,
blinked and purred as if it was tea time.
She jumped on her tower, overlooking the blazing sun.
And just like that,
I knew my heart was scarred for life.
So since that day,
I stay away, from green-eyed anything.
And just like that,
My heart is now only for dogs and bitches, please.
Dedicated to my friends Vaishnavi, Manish, and ofcourse, Cattie 🐱
